I’m really proud of the Winston-Salem area where I call home. We have cutting edge medical facilities, are on the fore front of bio-technology, been ranked #2 on the list of “Top Digital Cities“, been recognized as having a very low cost of living, and have a great arts community.
Now, Bloomberg Business Week has recognized our city as one of “The World’s Cheapest Cities for Expensive Living”.
Thousands of First Time Homebuyers took advantage of the Homebuyer Tax Credit in 2010. Most first time homebuyers now believe all of the available tax credits have expired, but if you live in North Carolina (and others, but not all states) there are still tax credit funds available. This program is the Mortgage Credit Certificate (MCC) and is available through the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency. This tax credit program is a hidden secret among most lenders.

Winston-Salem, North Carolina was recently recognized as one of Demographia.com’s “International Most Affordable Housing Markets”. The 2011 report was the organization’s 7th annual affordable housing survey. The survey looked at 325 international real estate markets in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Ireland, New Zealand, The United Kingdom, and the United States.

One of my favorite dishes at Thanksgiving is sweet potato casserole. I could eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner,and I’m sure a lot of you feel the same way! A recent New York Times article shows that North Carolina is helping fill all of those casserole dishes. U.S. Farmers expect to bring in a record harvest this year of 2 billion pounds…thats BILLION with a “B”. Dog gone it that’s a lot of sweet taters! And North Carolina expects to harvest almost half of that…ONE BILLION POUNDS right here in North Carolina. That’s pretty sweet! (sorry for the pun

A recent survey by Zillow.com shows that home owners are becoming more confident in the real estate market. Zillow performs a market analysis four times a year to see if home owners are optimistic or not in their home values for the next six months. The survey results show the South to be the most confident and least affected by the recession.

Across the country, 83% of home values have dropped in the last year according to Zillow’s Second Quarter Real Estate Market Reports. Home values were down almost 10% from one year ago.

The Winston Salem Piedmont Triad area real estate market has been fortunate not to experience a “bubble” where home values increased beyond actual value, and where home values have not decreased greatly like in major cities in states like Florida, California, Arizona and others.
