Things To Do in Winston Salem – Winston Salem Dash BB&T Ballpark

Winston-Salem is a fun town with plenty to do. Downtown is in the middle of revitalization, and has really brought the city back to life. Since I’m a big baseball fan, one of my favorite things to do downtown is watch the Winston Salem Dash at the BB&T Ballpark. The Dash are a Minor League “High A” affiliate of the Chicago White Sox and play in the Carolina League.

2010 was the inaugural season for the Dash & ballpark. Previous to being the Dash, the team was known as the Winston-Salem Warthogs.  You can read more about the history of the team here.

There was a lot of controversy (due to funding) before the new baseball stadium opened, but personally I believe it will be great for the city in the long term.  The team had a lot of success in it’s first year making the playoffs, and drawing 312,313 total fans to the new park which led all Advanced-A teams in attendance.  The ballpark was also voted “Best Ballpark” of 2010 by Ballparks.com .

Be sure to leave your comments below on what your most fun things to do are in Winston-Salem.

Beautiful Fall Day at Old Salem in Winston-Salem, NC

I had a little time earlier this week to walk around the Old Salem and downtown area and take some photos.  All of these pics were taken with my HTC EVO Android phone.  It has an 8 mega-pixel camera, so it takes decent pictures.  I edited them slightly (color, brightness, contrast, etc), because they were a little dull on an overcast day.

If you are visiting Winston Salem and looking for things to do, you must go to Old Salem and experience the history of this wonderful town.  Old Salem is a historic district of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. It features a living history museum that interprets the restored Moravian community. It’s  worth spending at least a few hours at this local attraction.
